Chris McCollum

Chris McCollum is the principal of McCollum Building Surveying and is a Chartered Building Surveyor, having been elected a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1991.  In 1997 he successfully completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Building Conservation and in 2005 became the only accredited RICS Building Conservation Surveyor in Northern Ireland.  In 2002 he was elected a member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation.

In 2006 Chris formed the practice of McCollum Building Surveying aiming to provide a Chartered Building Surveying presence in the West of the Province and a specific historic building conservation consultancy throughout the country.

His building surveying experience is wide and varied having worked in Scotland and Ireland for Chartered Building Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors and Architectural practices.   From the beginning of his career he has undertaken condition surveys and building defects analysis and has been involved in many schemes of building refurbishment and alteration to commercial, industrial and residential building stock.

In 1994 he became the first private sector Property Manager of the Hillsborough Castle Estate.  The Estate in addition to the large rambling Georgian mansion house contains several other listed buildings and scheduled monuments and is the official residence of Her Majesty the Queen in Northern Ireland.

Over the last number of years, prior to setting up in private practice, Chris has concentrated on historic buildings, working on a wide range of listed and non listed historic buildings, groups of buildings, townscapes and historic estates.

Chris has been a guest speaker at Heritage Fire Precaution seminars and the Royal Society of Ulster Architects Building Conservation course at the University of Ulster.  He is a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, Ulster Architectural Heritage Society and Association of Environment Conscious Buildings.
